Wind and Weather in Paracuru

Paracuru is one of Ceará’s most wind-reliable and diverse kitesurfing spots, powered by the same steady “Leste” trade winds that define Brazil’s northeast coast. From end of July to January, you can expect 18 to 30 knots of consistent side-onshore breeze almost every day. The wind usually starts building by late morning and keeps blowing strong until sunset, providing ideal conditions for both flatwater sessions and wave riding. With air temperatures around 30 °C and water near 27 °C, it’s boardshorts and bikinis all season long — no wetsuit needed. Paracuru’s smooth wind, warm tropical climate, and perfect balance between lagoon-flat and wave conditions make it a must-ride destination on Ceará’s sun-drenched coast.

Where to Kite in Paracuru

Paracuru is one of Brazil’s most complete kitesurfing playgrounds — offering a perfect mix of flatwater, waves, and steady wind all in one place. The main kite area, located just outside town, features wide sandy beaches and side-onshore wind ideal for easy launching and long freeride sessions. At low tide, natural sandbars and tidal pools form butter-flat sections inside the reef, perfect for freestyle and progression. When the tide rises, small to medium waves break over the outer reef, creating smooth, peeling lines that attract surfboard riders from around the world. For those craving adventure, a downwinder from Paracuru to Lagoinha or Guajirú delivers miles of untouched beaches and some of Ceará’s best ocean riding. In Paracuru, every session is a blend of variety, power, and pure Brazilian flow.

Where to Kitesurf in Paracuru?

Kite center located on the main kitesurfing beach in Paracuru, Brazil, where riders launch, land, and enjoy ideal wind conditions.

Quebramar

Located about 2km east of Paracuru, this Paracuru kite spot features a beach bar and restaurant called Quebramar — the perfect place to relax and watch all the kite action unfold right in front of you.

This area draws crowds of kitesurfers every year. Both on the left and right of this spot you’ll find a number of reefs that surface at low tide, and just 100 metres from the shoreline another reef around 1m high which also appears during low tide.

Thanks to these reef formations, Quebramar offers one of the best flatwater-and-wave combinations in all of Brazil. Between the reefs, a lagoon forms at low and mid tide — perfectly flat and ideal for freestylers and beginners looking to build confidence. For wave riders, a reef break generates waves of around 1 to 1.5 meters.

At high tide, the lagoon becomes choppier, and the reef creates a beach break about 200 meters from shore, producing waves between 2 and 3 meters, sometimes even bigger depending on the swell. This is truly a dream spot for kiters who love riding waves.

Curu River Mouth

This is a solid flatwater spot during high tide, with consistent wind out on the ocean. However, once you enter the river, the wind can become gusty. The area is surrounded by a long stretch of white-sand beach with no rocks or reefs in sight. Kiting is limited to certain hours, so it’s best to check with a local before heading out.

Downwind to Lagoinha

This stunning downwind route begins on the leeward side of town, where many riders kitesurf Paracuru, and takes you along some of the region’s widest, bluest beaches lined with dunes. As you approach Lagoinha, you’ll need to kite around a rocky headland before reaching the main beach. It’s a beautiful way to finish the ride.
