Depending on weight, for men, we recommend 7m and 9m kites; for women, 5m and 8m. Bringing two bars and a backup kite is a smart idea.

Expect steady side-shore winds, flat and choppy waters depending on location, air temperatures between 28–38°C, and water temps around 26–28°C — no wetsuit needed.

Absolutely. The flat-water areas and side-shore winds make it a great spot to learn, especially during low to medium tides.

Both work, but for different styles. Low tide gives you smoother water for freeride and tricks, while mid to high tide brings small waves and more space to ride. Most Barra Grande kitesurf sessions feel best around mid tide when the water is flatter and deeper.

Yes. Just downwind you’ll find sandbars and tidal lagoons with mirror-flat water — ideal for freestyle and big air. These spots offer classic barra kitesurf conditions and are easy to reach by a short downwinder.

Yes. Outside the reefs, small to medium waves form as the tide rises, making it fun for entry-level wave riding. It’s mellower than Preá or Jeri but still offers good variety for Barra Grande kite riders who enjoy surf-style sessions.

At mid to high tide, yes. Foilers will find enough depth near the reef and further offshore. Low tide can be shallow in some zones, so timing is key for safe Barra Grande kitesurf foiling sessions.

Top spots include the main beach, Lagoa de Barrinha, Lagoa do Mangue, and La Boca (Macapá - river mouth). Each offers unique conditions, from flat lagoons to small playful waves.

Yes, most spots are accessible by kite (upwind or downwind), while others can be reached by boat or donkey cart for a more local touch.

Definitely. You can kayak through mangroves, take a donkey cart ride, go seahorse spotting, or relax with yoga, massages, and beachside cocktails.

Barra Grande is a peaceful and charming village with sandy streets, friendly locals, and a growing kite community. Great food, live music, and a laid-back atmosphere await.

Most kite centers in Barra Grande offer rescue boat assistance and beach support during the main wind season, keeping riders safe across the large bay. Still, coverage can depend on wind and tide conditions, so always confirm locally before heading out. If you’re joining FreerideKitesurf, you’re fully covered with professional rescue, 4×4 support, and local guides throughout your session or downwind adventure.

Yes! Our Wild North downwind route includes Barra Grande as a stop or waypoint. It’s a must-ride location on the northeast coast.
