This is not your average kite trip — it’s an off-the-grid, wind-powered journey through Brazil’s untamed north, with full support and zero crowds.

Thirteen Days Across Brazil’s Wild North
This is the ultimate adventure — a 240-km expedition through Brazil’s most untouched coastline. Over thirteen days, you’ll cross three states — Ceará, Piauí and Maranhão — riding through shifting dunes, tropical deltas and into the surreal lagoons of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park.
Each day brings a new landscape: empty beaches that stretch for miles, deep-blue channels of the Parnaíba Delta and wind-sculpted dunes glowing gold at sunset. You’ll ride through regions few travelers ever reach — powered only by the wind and supported every step of the way by your crew.
With in-water guides, 4×4 vehicles, quads and boats tracking your route, the logistics are handled so you can focus entirely on the ride. Evenings unfold in authentic pousadas beside the sea — fresh seafood, hammock views and that easy rhythm of coastal Brazil.
This is not a tour — it’s a true kite expedition. Remote, raw and unforgettable.

Expertise You Can Trust. Passion You Can Feel.
Behind every Wild North downwinder is a team that lives for exploration. Our Freeride Kitesurf guides are experienced riders who know these remote stretches better than anyone — from the shifting sandbanks of Ceará to the maze of islands in the Parnaíba Delta.
Each group rides with in-water guides who manage the pace and safety, while 4×4 vehicles, quads, and boats follow along to provide full coverage through even the most inaccessible sections. Radios, GPS tracking and daily safety briefings keep everyone connected.
Our logistics team handles every detail behind the scenes — coordinating pousadas, boat transfers and timing the delta crossings with tides and wind. You’ll feel the balance of true adventure with complete professionalism at every stage.
With Freeride Kitesurf, you’re not just kiting across Brazil — you’re journeying with people who’ve dedicated their lives to this coastline. It’s freedom, friendship, and the spirit of exploration — all backed by absolute expertise.

On the Wild North Downwinder, each stop is planned with at least two nights, giving you time not just to rest but to really experience each village and its surroundings. You’ll stay in carefully selected pousadas — locally owned, beachside or close to it accommodations that blend comfort with authentic charm. These stays aren’t just about a good night’s sleep; they’re part of the cultural immersion, connecting you with the people and lifestyle of Ceará, Piauí, and Maranhão.
Meals highlight regional flavors, with fresh seafood, tropical fruits, and hearty Brazilian dishes. Daily breakfast is included, and we do our best to cater to dietary preferences. Evenings are laid-back and social — the perfect time to enjoy local hospitality, share stories with fellow riders, and recharge for the next big downwind adventure.
We’ve got you covered. On the Wild North Downwinder, our guides ride alongside you in the water, just like part of the crew, ensuring everyone stays safe and comfortable. Because some stretches — especially in Piauí and the Parnaíba Delta — can’t be followed by 4×4, support is provided by fast boats and quads when needed, with radios keeping the whole team connected.
Each stage is carefully chosen to suit the group’s level, so you’ll be challenged by long rides, wave sections, and river crossings — but never pushed beyond your ability. With guides who know every corner of this coastline, you can focus on the adventure: going for that extra-long ride, enjoying the steady wind, and soaking up the raw nature of Brazil’s wild north. It feels like kiting with friends who know the terrain inside out — pure freedom, always with peace of mind.
Make sure your gear is in excellent condition — repairs can be difficult to arrange in the remote areas you’ll pass through. We recommend bringing two boards (twin-tip and surfboard) and at least two kites, with up to four welcome depending on your weight and riding style. A spare bar, extra lines and replacement footstraps are highly advised. While we carry some repair tools, compatibility with all brands can’t be guaranteed. You’ll encounter a mix of flatwater lagoons, open sea, waves, and long-distance downwind stretches, so being able to swap between setups will keep the trip versatile and fun. With water temperatures at 26–28°C, you won’t need a wetsuit. A long-sleeve UV lycra (provided) is perfect for sun protection, and we strongly recommend waterproof sunscreen, zinc, sunglasses with leash, and a hat. Booties are generally not needed but may help less experienced riders in some spots. And if your kites use a unique valve system, don’t forget to pack your adapter.
We offer fully customizable kite safaris for groups of three or more. Whether you’d like to adjust the length of the trip, upgrade accommodations, or add extra days in places like Barra Grande, the Parnaíba Delta, or Atins, our team will shape the adventure to fit your vision. Experience the downwinder your way — with flexibility, comfort, and full support.

I just returned from the Classic Downwinder in Brazil. I am still buzzing with excitement. Garcia and his staff put together an 11/10 package. The support on and off the water, the knowledge of the spots and locations, the accommodations, the food...everything. It was hands down one of the best experiences of my life. I got to kite endless amounts of waves and flat water, explore towns i never would have accessed on my own, and met with other surfers from around the world that i now call friends. Brazil has incredible culture, wind, and kite spots, and there is no better way to get so much in, so hassle free, than with Freeride Kitesurf. I will be back for the Wild North trip as soon as i can! Huge thanks to Garcia, Thales, George and Roberto. Selva!
I highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for an amazing kiteboarding experience! We just came back from the October Freeride Wind North Downwinder in Brazil - from Tatajuba to Atins - and it exceeded expectation in every way! Each peice of the experience was carefully thought out, from kite routes and spots to transportation to tides and even to where we would be on the full moon. The accommodations were way nicer than expected, the wind blew strong every day from 11 am to sunset, and the spots were breathtakingly beautiful. But most of all, what made the trip inceadible were our local guides. I highly recommend requesting Thalis as your local kite expert. He's an amazing kiter who knows the coast like the back of his hand while being one of the nicest and most helpful people I've ever met. And the trip wouldn't have been close to the same without our local car expert George Rasto. He's a jungle-trained, high-energy, off-roading guru with the skills to get you through those turbulent sand dunes and local restaurants alike while also being excellent company for a beer or cachaca after sunset. You guys both made me seriously question getting back on that flight to go home!
My two adult kids and I just finished an absolutely amazing 7 day downwinder on the wild and beautiful coast of Brazil with Free Ride Kite Surfing. Mateus (our guide) and George (our driver) were a fantastic team: kind, friendly, competent, with great local knowledge and just the right balance of helping us when we needed it without being intrusive. Garcia and his team are totally trustworthy and I could not recommend them more highly.
Great trip to Brazil (wild north trip) I was looking to discover long downwinds in Brazil, while discovering this region, taking full advantage of the ideal sailing conditions in a friendly state of mind. I chose Garcia's team that I discovered on the web. Good choice, it was better than what I had imagined, a fantastic vacation that I won't soon forget. I recommend!!!
Another awesome trip with Freeride, surfing up the wild and windy coast of Brasil…Garcia planned it all for us and the team (and warm winds) did the rest. Thanks again Garcia
A great adventure on the Northeast trip 🤩 exceptional route, a great little group, our guide Rapha was so friendly and professional (pfffff!!! if you know him you can't stand him 😉) and top-notch drivers! The organization was perfect 👍 I loved it …
